Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, Charles Robert Leslie, 1841

For a while now, I’ve been working on my next project, Renegades. This show explores history’s once-famous but now forgotten women.

Pirates! Sword fighters! Outlaws! Warrior queens!

Remember when Donald called Hillary a nasty woman? Well, he’d obviously not heard of Zheng Yi Sao, history’s most successful pirate, who was so vicious the Chinese empire had to offer her and her force of 70,000 pirates government pensions for life to get them to stop marauding.

Or Julie D’Aubigny, who rescued her girlfriend from a convent by stealing the body of a dead nun, setting the convent ON FIRE, and escaping with her lover out the window.

These and so many other women have been left out of our telling of history - but they deserve to be remembered.

I’ll be updating everyone on my progress here, and on my FB pag:

But if you’d like to support Renegades, the best way to do that is to get a copy of my book, Llama on the Loose. Because at Whisky & Beards, the vast majority of profits go to the artists.

And of course - look out for Renegades in Kent, in spring 2022.

xx
